Is Diastolic Dysfunction A Serious Health Condition?

I was recently diagnosed with diastolic dysfunction by my doctor but have not been able to get the cardiologist I was referred to make an appointment. Is this condition anything I really need to worry about? I am 55 and my father died of a massive coronary at the age of 63.
