Is Excessive Tattooing Indicative Of Emotional Trauma?

What, if any, is behind a person that has excessive tatooing of his body. When I say excessive I mean Full Body...head to toe up the neck, behind the ears, hands with letters on knuckles, etc ?
I wonder if there is some sort of emotional issue (person is male 32 years of age and not social)
