Is Extremely Heavy Flow During Periods A Cause For Concern?

Hi I'm 21 years old. I have always had a heavy flow on my period but lately it has become even heavier. I use the super tampons and with in 30 - 45 min I'm already bleeding through it. I'm lucky if I can go 1 hour without changing it. Is this a sign that there could be a major problem with me internally or is this a common problem?
