Is Flaking And Peeling Skin After Bone Setting Surgery Normal?

I broke my wrist 5 weeks ago, had surgery/pins etc and the skin on my hand is flaking and peeling so bad! Is this normal? Biggest problem is, coming from summer to winter, my tanned skin is patchy and the winter white skin patches makes it look like something realllly bad!
