Is General Anesthesia Recommended During Insertion Of Copper T?

Five months after second cesarian delivery, two days back i went to put cu T. I was given GA in the theater. When enquired I was told that it would be uncomfortable puting cu T otherwise. But after my first delivery, I put cuT but no anesthesia. Can any one explain the purpose of giving GA for simple procedure like this. Also, I am experiancing continuous bleeding. is it normal?
