Is Hymen Surgery Possible For Thick Hymen?

ive been having sex for a year with the same guy but it hurts every time, i saw a gynocologist today and he said my hymen hasnt broken. How can this be? =\ he said in these cases they dont do anything and just leave it alone =\ but ive read online you can have a small surgery to cut it? do you need to be asleep?
