Is Intercourse Safe In Condition Of Abnormal Swelling In Uterus?

Just been told this morning by my doctor that I have an abnormal looking polyp on my cervix and abnormal swelling in my uterus. She is refering me to a specialist. I am in a long term relationship with someone who works long spells overseas and he is due home in 3 weeks. I really dont know how I will feel with this diagnosis hanging around in my head but should I feel able to have intercourse would this be safe, in particular for my partner?
