Is Irregular Menstruation During Perimenopause Normal?

Im 46 years old. didn't get me period for 3 months. went to my Gyno.. she told me that I'm going through perimenopause. I got my period 2 weeks later.. which lasted about 10 days (very heavy). 26 days later I got it again.. lasted about 5 days (heavy for 3 days). went away for 1 week now i'm spotting on & off.. confused. Is this normal?
