Is Is Safe To Take Steroids To Treat Bronchitis And Sinusitis?

Good afternoon. I am a RN that works in a private duty setting. My patient is 22 and has hx of MD, tongue hyperteophy, mitral regurg, CHF left and right sided. He has porr cough reflex and a mickey button due to aspiration problems. He is continuely getting respiratory infections. He requires frequent oral suctioning, cough assists, neb treatments. First couple times he was dx with pseudomonas. This last time he was diagnosed with pseudomonas and staph. He was treated with Levaquin x 14days and clindamycin x7 days. He did not get much better and started having labored breathing and fever 4 days post antibiotics. PA was contacted and sputum culture revealed serratia mercescens. He was prescribed Bactrim Ds x 10 days. He also had had Botox injections in his salivary glands for drooling couple day dx with staph and pseudomonas. His throat became swollen and caused more difficulty talking so he was scoped twice by 2 different Dr office to check airway. My conscern is I am currently treating acute bronchitis and sinusitis with steroids. How contagious is this disease and how should I and other nurses working with him protect ourselves. Does any isolation or just regular safety precautions be used.
