Is It Advisable To Wear Tampon While Having Yeast Infection?

I'm pretty sure that I have a yeast infection and I have been experiencing symptoms for several months. I started my period today. I haven't used tampons before but would like to because I'm going to be swimming on vacation. Is it safe to use a tampon while I have an infection?
