Is It Alright To Walk For While Post Treatment For Tibia Fracture?

I fractured my tibia and fibula 8 days ago and had surgery the same day, a titanium rod and 2 screws were put in. I was told to elevate it for 20min 4-6 times a day and weight bearing as tolerated the day after the procedure. Does this mean I should try to put weight on it or keep it elevated most the day? I really want to try putting more weight but I don't want to mess anything up. It hurts but the pain is tolerable. Thanks
