Is It Normal For Spotting And Tissue Discharge To Occur When On Depo Shots?

I am on the shot i started spotting a few days ago started actually period last night. I got up this morning and lifted my son up and out came a the only thing i have seen that describes it is a piece of placenta looking material came out. is this normal
