Is It Normal For Sun Burn Skin Peel To Be Painful?

Hi , i recently went away and due to the sunny weather, got a sunburn. it is turning into a tan slowly, however, on the inside edge of my right elbow, the tan is peeling. Although i know this is completely the normal process, the skin that it is uncovering seems to be raw and quite painful.. anything to worry about?
