Is It Ok To Leave Perirectal Abscess Unpacked After Surgery?

I just had a perirectal abscess removed yesterday. And for post-op home treatment, was given packing and gauze.I'm having trouble getting the packing in, as I can't really see the opening. Going to my follow-up this afternoon... If I can't do the packing myself, can I wait till end of the day to have the doctor do it?
