Is It Okay If Birth Control Pills Are Not Taken In Line With Periods?

I am a new patient to birth control. I am 21 and I am still in my first month of taking it (16 days to be exact). I I am taking Larin (Generic for Gildess), but I did not start taking it in line with my period like you are supposed to. I started my period after only being on birth control for 8 days, which lines up with my normal cycle. But I have now been on my period for a week, I am still taking the active pills, and my flow is still medium with the blood being a mixture of red and brown. The placebo pills start in five days. Should I be concerned? Is this normal if you don t start taking birth control in line with your cycle?
