Is It Possible To Have An Allergic Reaction To Shingles

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to shingles that you tear off a roof ? I work w/ my cousin & I pick up all the shingles from the ground, & throw them in a garbage trailer. When I was picking them up & tossing them, I noticed I had red blotches on my arms & neck. I was wondering if there's an allergic reaction from the pebbles on the shingles?
