Is It Possible To Have An Allergic Reaction To Smokeless

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to smokeless tobacco? I've dipped for years, but I switched to a brand I have never tried before and I woke up the next morning in a rash or hives (hard to tell the difference). Went to the doctor and she told me it must've been an allergic reaction to something and asked me if I had changed any habits and I had stated I didn't.
