Is It Possible To Have Cartilage Discharge From Sinuses?

My son just had a piece of what looks like cartilage fall into his throat and that he then spit out. He has had a prior baseball injury but refused any treatment. Since he has had nothing but problems with nose bleeds, sinus issues and no this thing. Can pieces of cartilage come out of your sinuses even if it s been a year since the injury? And what should we do?
