Is It Safe To Apply Clotrimazole On Ear Canal?

Hi I have an ear problem. It has been itching really badly, and liquid discharges out of my ear. (left ear) . it s extremely red and it hurts so badly. It also bleeds. My doctor gave me a creme called clotrimazole usp 1% . i just put it in my ear, i was wondering if its okay to put it further down my ear canal?
