Is It Safe To Have Copper T Inserted For More Than A Year?

I have inserted a copper t in Sept 2007. Still i havent removed the same. I want to know whether it would be still safe if i carry on for another year or should i get it removed and also when the copper t is removed does it pain and how much time it will take to be removed out.
