Is It Safe To Have Ice For A Heart Patient?

I am a 65 yoa male with a heart problem and have managed very well since having been diagnosed. I have heard from hospital staff personnel in the cardio dept state that I should not eat ice as much as I do. I love to eat ice and pretty much have a glass of ice in my hand more often that not.
