Is It Safe To Start Birth Control Pills Before Having Periods?

So, i went to the doctor to get birth controli explained that i should get my period soon but i wasnt sure on the exact date. They told me to go ahead and start my birth control anyways which means i started on a thursday(day i went to the doctor) is there anything wrong with starting the pill before my period?
