Is It Safe To Switch From Janumet To Metformin For Diabetes?

Janumet (Sitagliptin + Metformin) has now become prohibitively expensive. Question is, would having more but smaller meals a day mitigate the same issue that sitagliptin addresses. If so, maybe I could go back on Metformin only and save a lot of money.
