Is It Safe To Take Amlodipine Beylate For High BP?

I have been on 10 mg bystolic for 2 years for rapid heart beat and borderline high blood pressure with great results! A month ago, my blood pressure began increasing and now am being prescribed 5 mg amyloid pine besylate in addition. Is this safe? Any side effects to be concerned about or lifestyle changes? Caffeine or alcohol? I am a 56 yr old active female with family history of blood pressure issues.
