Is It Safe To Take Azithromycin For Cold Despite Being Diagnosed With Colotis?

Hi Doctor:I was diagnosed with Colitis December 14, 2014. Was find a week later, and then I got sick again (stomach pain, diaherria, and lost weight).I went to emergency on December 29, and was told that I still had Coliits. I am feeling better now, eating normal, but have had a cold and cough for over a week now. I saw my doctor on January 6, and he prescribed cough syrup with codeine. I have taken it, but my cold and cough is still present. I sent my doctor an email, yesterday, to let him know and he sent a prescription to my pharmacist (Azithromycin 250 mg Dose Pack. I am afraid to take it due to having Colitis last month. Please advise. Thank you!
