Is It Safe To Take Megestrol Acetate After Having Endometrial Biopsy?

hi last Tuesday my gyn performed an endometrial biopsy then the next day I started my menses now it has been 9 days and I still have a steady flow of blood. my doctor prescribed megestrol acetate 40mg 2xs daily. is that a good medication to use and how long should it take to take effect/
