Is It Safe To Take Metformin For Diabetes With The Following ALT And Fasting Sugar Levels?

Hello Doc,I weigh 210 pounds and am 46. I gained a few pounds in the last six months and hence thought of visiting a diabetologist. I am not a diegetic yet.My doc asked for A1c and fasting sugar from lab. It was 6.6 and 98 fasting. Other full blood and urine reports as well ABI reports were normal in all parameters.Still my doc wants me to start on metformin declaring I am a diabetic. Is medication really required in my case?Thanks for your advice.
