Is It Safe To Take Percocet For Pain Caused Due To Guillain Barre Syndrome?

I have been taking Percocet not quite a year for pain after Guillain Barre Syndrome. I went down from 2 per day to 1 per day about 6 weeks ago. Now I have gone three days without any but I'm not convinced I am done taking them, or that I want to be. What is the down side to this? They are super cheap, work and I don't have addition or withdrawal symptoms, at least not as severe as I was lead to believe they would be.
