Is It Safe To Take Piopar To Control Blood Sugar Level?

Hi, I am mildly hypertensive and am taking Asomax 2.5 and Telma 20. My bp is now within the normal range. As my post prandial sugar was about 165-170 I have been prescribed Piopar 7.5 mg (morning) and Ismet 500 (night). I have read about Piopar being banned in India and then the ban being lifted. Is this drug safe in the dose prescribed? What are the possible side-effects?
