Is It Safe To Take Megeprol Acetate To Increase Appetite?

My dad has been taking megeprol acetate for a few wks to help increase his appetite, but has had hiccups constantly, and his stomach is jumping, spasming maybe? kinda like his stomach has the hiccups...? We are concerned that this medicine is causing more problems than good.

I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.

these drugs should not be taken to stimulate the appetite.
In fact, he might have started having hiccups due to acidity following intake of these medicines.
I would advise you following:
1. To give him a combination of Pantoprazole and domperidone once a day
2. To get his all routine investigations including Kidney Function test
3. To get his Liver function test done.
4. To stop Megeprol acetate immedaitely.

Review with the reports.
