Is It Safe To Use Dithranol Cream For Alopecia Areata ?

I have Alopecia Areata, due to which i decided to self medicate. I used Dithranol Cream, within two days it self the area patchless beard burned. I stopped from that time, its been almost a week. The redness and scare has not decreased, and now i fear permanent patch to be formed in that area. Please help what can i undo what i have done.
