Is It Safe To Use Mupirocin On Penis?

My 10 yr old son was prescribed mupirocin for lesions & bumps on his face & around his mouth... We were told it was a staph infection... He was also prescribed an antibiotic...once we got home he showed me that he had some swelling & redness around his penis.... Can the mupirocin b used on his penis as well ?
