Is It Safe To Wet The Stitches On Broken Arch Of Foot?

I cut the arch of my foot about 2 weeks ago. it was cut down to the muscle, but did not penetrate it. The doctor stitched inside and outside. It is healing well, and he told me to leave the stitches in for 3 weeks. i am starting to walk on it now. I was wondering if I can get my foot wet now, and if I can go swimming to excercise my foot.
