Is Milk Of Magnesia Safe For Infants?

I don t have any children, but a friend of mine in Africa just had a baby and she says baby is crying all the time and she has to nurse the baby a lot. The father asked me if they should give the baby Milk of Magnesium!!!!! I advised them against that. They are young new parents and in Africa, there are a lot of beliefs in stuff we would NEVER think of doing. My question: Is it safe to give a 15 day old infant Milk of Magnesia?
