Is Numbness On Scalp Normal On Having Sutures Above The Eye?

My fiancee had a fall on Saturday night. He had to have 12 stitches above his eye and it has turned very black. He lost some amount of blood. He felt well enough to go back to work today,but says his scalp feels numb. Is this normal and how long will the symptoms last?
