Is Removal Of Implanon From Arm Necessary Post Its Expiry Date?

I have implanon in my arm for three years now and it has expired and I do not have insurance. Will it hurt me to have it stay in my arm? Can I get pregnant until I get another birth control? My regular doctor says no just find a different birth control.
