Is Rheumatic Fever Hereditary And How Can It Be Confirmed?

I am struggling with a number of symptoms and I believe they are being treated wrong. I would like to know if rheumatic fever is hereditary, I know it is uncommon in the USA but my father had it and I seem to have a lot of the symptoms, how can i be sure?
