Is Silver Nitrate Treatment For Pain In Abdomen Safe?

I had undergone a complete hysterectomy in june 2010. Last month when I went for a check up because of pain in the right side of my updomen, the doctor examined and did the treatment with silver niyrate to burn off granulation. It is done once again after three weeks. Is this safe to do silver nitrate treatment. I have read that silver nitrate is poisonous.
