Is Sudden Withdrawal Of Hydrocodone Advisable?

My fiance has been in the hospital for 6 days. For 5 days he was on a fentenyl iv and he has been taking hydrocodone consistently for about 3 years. They stopped his pain medication abruptly with out weening him off. What can happen in this situation? We had a very disturbing episode today.
