Is Surgery And IUD Required For Having Polyps In Uterus?

Doctor says i have two polyps in my uterus and she is going to perform surgery to take them out as i normally have a lot of bleeding during menstruation. She also says she will insert an IUD after surgery to stop the bleeding. Is the surgery and IUD necessary at all? Polyos are 10mm and 4cm in size respectively.
