Is The Cutisoft Cream Safe For Infants?

My 2-month-old nephew has been prescribed cutisoft cream applied twice a day to a slightly rough, whitish patch next to his eye (for 5 to 6 days). But the cream seems to be irritating his eye as he seems to be wanting to rub it off. Is it ok to apply the cream and then wipe it off after a couple of hours?
