Is There A Chance Of Pregnancy Having Missed The Contraceptive Pills?

Hi. My girlfriend was on birth control but then stopped for awhile when she went away on a trip. When she came back, she started again but got her period in the middle of her hormone pills and decided to get off it again. Awhile after her period, we were having unprotected sex and I came inside of her. She started her birth control again days later. Is there a chance of her being pregnant? What are some possible effects to her and her body if she is?
