Is There A Significant Difference Between Bronchitis In The Upper

Is there a significant difference between bronchitis in the upper bronchial tubes and the lower bronchial tubes? I have been diagnosed with bronchitis but I was given a cough suppressant rather than a cough express ant. Don't I want to take something to get the congestion out of my bronchial tubes rather than suppress the cough? Thank you.
