Is Trichomoniasis The Medication For Vaginitis?

Hi, my wife is pregnant, 3months now. she was diagnosed with vaginitis and is being treated with metronidazole just last week. but i have read that this medication is for trichomoniasis. is this the correct medication for her? i also read that this medication would definitely affect her pregnancy and the fetus.
