Is Using Betadine Safe During Pregnancy?

Hi, i am 36 weeks pregnant. My recent analysis shows i have my vaginal white cells little higher than normal. my ob advised to use betadine locally, though i feel ok and have no symptoms. I read some freeky stuff about this medication that it has side effects on the fetus/newborn. I am confused. Should i use it even if i feel ok? Have to mention that few weeks ago my vaginal analysis showed i have staphylococcus epidermidis, though the predominant flora was lactobacillus and again no symptoms. Anyway i took treatment for it and now this. Need an extra advise please. Thanks!
