I've Been Recently Prescribed Methylphenidate Er Alza 54 . I'm

I've been recently prescribed methylphenidate er alza 54 . I'm concerned with all I'm reading about people having seizures, and negative affects of the drug. I was told by my doctor who prescribed it to me, that if I wanted to stop taking the drug I could anytime. I'm hearing you have to slowly get off. You can't just stop. My question is can I just stop using the drug? And am I allowed a few glasses of wine on the weekend while on the drug?
