I've Been Suffering With An Off And On Sore Throat

I've been suffering with an off and on sore throat for the past month since I was initially diagnosed with a virus followed by a sinus infection. Negative strep test 2x. Seems as if throat irritation rotates sides accompanied by earache. No ear infection. Prescribed augmenting w/steroids. 2x. Now have completed those regimes and sore throat returned. Had a cat scan of sinuses they are normal. Could this be allergies?
