I've Been Taking 20 Mgms Of Atorvastatin For Almost 20

I've been taking 20 mgms of atorvastatin for almost 20 years. Total cholesterol is under 200 although near. HDL is high but LDL is high too. I'm 72 and recent carotid sonogram was clear. I wore a heart monitor for 3 weeks and that gave me good marks as well.
So when my doctor wanted to increase my dosage to 40 milligrams I refused and told him I thought it was overkill. At 5 feet and 123 pounds I could stand to lose 10 pounds. But he never suggested a change in diet or activity. I take no other meds but vitamins and am thinking to embrace a plant diet.
Was I right in not increasing the statin?
