I've been taking subutex for 5 years now and have taken it and weaned off under the supervision of my
doctor during my second pregnancy and she was perfectly healthy with no signs of abstinence withdrawal. I am now expecting again and require continued treatment with this medicine throughout the remainder of the pregnancy which is approximately 13 weeks ( and possibly after delivery), but my biggest obstacle is finding a good, educated, and extremely knowledgeable and experienced doctor who specializes in opiate dependence. This new OBGYN I just started seeing one month ago uses buprenorphine to treat opiod dependence in pregnant women only and she accepted my (state funded) maternity insurance and was able to preauthorize my insurance company to pay for the drug. I would have gladly stayed with my previous doctor who was an MD, a Psychiatrist, AND opiate addiction specialist, but my monthly visit was $250 plus my medicine at the pharmacy was hundreds. Most of these doctors, state officials, and just plain judgemental people who think they are educated about buprenorphine and its treatment, simply don't know or understand how big of an impact this medicine makes in people's lives for the good and the positive outcomes caused by this. All this new doctor is concerned about is constantly drug screening me, following all her little policies, judging me, and quite frankly doing me more harm than good while spending my money and the state's money. I no longer desire her to be my Obstetrician or to prescribe me buprenorphine any longer. So, my question is, can you or someone out there who knows what their talking about and cares, can you please help me find a good, caring, and extremely educated doctor on the drug buprenorphine and opiate dependence who can treat a woman who is pregnant, specifically me, but can also continue treatment afterward and only if needed. Please, someone answer my sincere question and request. Thank you so much for listening, and by the way I live in Nashville, TN so any referrals close to home would be wonderful.
