I've Been Told I Need Flatback Surgery Which Consists Of

I've been told I need flatback surgery which consists of two eighteen inch rods. I have brachial plexopathy and both scapulas are partially paralliized. Is this a surgery I should go through with? And what are the risks to my shoulder's and changing my gait? I walk just fine, but am hurting in my low back and hip. And having a nerve disorder scares me. What do you think?
